Jacks has now been designing and making jewellery for over 30 years, and it’s with this experience that she is able to guide her clients on their journeys, creating incredibly special pieces of bespoke, handmade, contemporary jewellery.
Born and raised in the south-west, Jacks Turner skipped sixth-form to start a two-year course in art and design. Whilst exploring all creative disciplines, Jacks found metalwork the most rewarding, and went on to study for for a degree at the Birmingham School of Jewellery. Jacks then spent eight years managing the workshop of a top jewellery designer, which naturally led her to open her own studio: Jacks Turner Jewellery.
In the words of Cilla…
What's your name and where do you come from?
Jacks Turner, born and raised in the South West.
What do you do, and what do you make?
I'm a goldsmith, hand crafting fine, exquisitely finished jewellery.
What is your favourite gemstone? And do you have a favourite tool you’d like to tell us about?
My favourite gemstone has to be my birthstone the diamond! Especially the more unique and one of a kind salt and pepper diamonds. I also love the old cut diamonds in a pale champagne colour. My favourite tool would have to be my micro motor, it’s my most used piece of equipment. The second would be my small setting tools that I custom make for hard to reach areas of certain jobs.
You’re at cocktail party (we all wish), and someone asks you what do you do? What is your two-line response?
"I'm a goldsmith creating and designing modern engagement rings for people who love clean, elegant lines and beautiful stones.."
Why and when did you start making?
I was always going to be a maker of some sort, it was a natural direction for me to do something practical.
Fun/little known fact about yourself?
In 2005 I won the Lonmin Design Innovation Award which is competition orientated towards platinum based designers who are looking to drive forward, innovative and progressive jewellery design.
If you could go on any holiday right now – where would you go?
Somewhere hot with a beach and palm trees to relax and enjoy the warm sun.
What do you like to do when you’re not making jewellery?
I love going for long walks or trail runs with my gorgeous hound dog Hector.
What is your favourite piece of jewellery you own?
I've recently designed and made a gorgeous salt & pepper diamond pendant. I'm launching it soon on my website under 'Bijou Trilogy'
What's your most treasured piece of art you own?
I have many treasured pieces of art, each piece has captured my attention at different times in my life. If I had to pick out a few, I would say my woodland oil painting by Daniel Ablitt, ‘Western Super Mare’ screen print by Banksy, and my first ever purchased work of art ‘Angeldog’ - a screen print by a Birmingham artist.
What have you been watching? Your favourite TV show you’ve been bingeing/watching this lockdown?
I love a crime drama so I’ve been bingeing on whatever I can find.
